Why I'm close to D'banj and not Don Jazzy' - Rapper, Ikechukw

"I have heard a lot about my relationship with D'banj. Some people call me his houseboy, bouncer, and the rest, but let me say this, I have been close to D'banj since day one. The first time I saw him was at Obi Asika's house, when he was about signing to Storm Records...and if you're observant, you would have discovered that we have similar features; he's lepa just like me and we have same swagger. So we've created some kind of bond right from time which I was not opportuned to share with Don Jazzy. I only find people that find me, simple! Those that I am important to are those that are important to me. I am just chilling with D'banj and now that he's making a stand abroad, it's going to be stupid of me not to utilize the situation he already has. So, we are not just friends, we are also doing business" - The rapper tells Encomium magazine in an exclusive interview

Its ‘Shave The Dreads’ Season As Terry G Shaves His Dreadlocks Too!

Terry-G
We don’t know what’s causing the wave of new looks but something is definately happening. The latest celeb to change his looks  and chop off his dreads is none other than Terry G. The singer was spotted recently without his locks, sporting a totally new look. It would seem that the wild child is changing his ways and rebranding himself. Even though the locks are gone, we can still see the element of wildness in his bright coloured jacket.
Only last week, popular comedian, Basketmouth shaved his dreads. Before him was Timaya and even before Timaya was Faze. The wave of new looks seems to be catching on fast as another singerWaconzy has shaved

Davido acquires N140 million home in Lekki

And he's just 20. Damn! :-) The music star just acquired a property in Lekki Phase1. I mentioned N140 million because that was what the property was on the market for but I can't say for sure if that's what Davido paid for it. The acquisition of the house was concluded between yesterday and today. The house is close to where his father also has a house in Lekki. #bigboythings. Big congrats to him!

Hajj flights suspended as 509 female pilgrims deported

The Saudi authorities have stepped up the deportation of unaccompanied Nigerian female pilgrims, sending back to Nigeria 508 of them Thursday night.
another set of female pilgrims held in Jeddah
A man was also among the deportees. He was said to have decided to return home after the Saudis also denied entry to his wife, according to Alhaji Uba Mana, spokesman of the Hajj Commission.
Close to 1,000 female pilgrims, who landed in Saudi without male companions, have so far been sent back to Nigeria, prompting Nigeria’s National Hajj Commission announce the suspension of flights to Saudi Arabia.
Last night, the Hajj commission described the development as “”unprecedented and worrisome”.
“After consultation with all stakeholders, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has been compelled to temporarily suspend all Hajj flights for the next 48 hours,” the commission said in a statement.
The commission said more than 1,000 women were being detained at the King Abdulazeez International Airport in Jeddah and Prince Muhammad Ibn Azeez International Airport in Madina.
The suspension of all flights would enable the commission to “appraise the situation critically”, it said.
An airport official in Jeddah said the women have been denied entry because “they are not accompanied by a mahram (the statutory male companion),” adding that talks were continuing between Saudi and Nigerian officials.
The women began arriving at Jeddah airport on Sunday.
About 171 of them flew home to Nigeria on Wednesday. Another batch of 102 returned to the country on Thursday, airport officials said.
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday set up a five-member team to negotiate with the Saudi authorities, an official statement said.
Nigerian and Saudi officials held a “fruitful meeting” Thursday in Abuja on the issue, the leader of the Nigerian team to the talks, Aminu Tambuwal, told reporters.
Tambuwal, speaker of the lower house of parliament, did not give further details.

Tracking device catches Nigerian thief

The police in Nigeria’s capital of Abuja have arrested an electronic dealer at Zone 3, shopping complex, for allegedly being in possession of some stolen iPad tabletcomputer and other items belonging to the National Hospital.
A Police source at the Zone 3 Police Division said the hospital implanted the tracking devices in its gadgets after series of computer thefts since January this year.
According to Mr Mai Lafiya, the Chief Security Officer, the device was called into play after yet another theft.
“Recently, the hospital iPad computer got missing, and it triggered the tracking device. The item was traced to a shop at the Zone 3 shopping complex,’’ he said
A police source confirmed that the suspect was now in police custody and that a search warrant had been issued to search the entire shop for more stolen items.
In another development, an 18 year-old dancer, Fahima Ahmed, of Daki-Biyu village, Abuja, was on Thursday sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing cell phones.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Rahmatu Gulma, while handing down the sentence, described the convict as an expert in “thievery who is not remorseful of her crime’’.
“She appears to be an expert in thievery to have been able to enter a room where four men are sleeping without any fear and picked up four cell phones and cash. Such a girl does not deserve any mercy. She deserved to be punished to serve as a deterrent to her and others.

171 Nigerian female pilgrims home after Saudi ban

About 171 of Nigerian unaccompanied female pilgrims, barred from entering Jeddah for the annual Hajj by the Saudi authorities, returned to Kano Nigeria today.
Up to 1,000 Nigerian women were affected by the ban order because they were not accompanied by men, with most stuck at the Jeddah airport, Nigerian officials said Wednesday.
The women, who began arriving Sunday at the airport in Jeddah, in western Saudi Arabia, were facing possible deportations by Saudi authorities, said a report compiled by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, which oversees Nigerian participation in the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.
“Upon enquiries by the reception team officials of the National Hajj Commission in the airport, they were told that the pilgrims were held back because of lack of mahram (lawful male accompanying pilgrim),” said the report, which was submitted to the Nigerian House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.
“These women were not deported. They were returned based on the decision by the National Hajj Commission because the embarrassment from the Saudi authorities was becoming unbearable,” commission spokesman Umar Bala told AFP.
Bilateral talks were ongoing between officials of the two countries to resolve the issue, he added. He said that about 1,000 women were still blocked at the Jeddah airport.

Oyo NURTW: Tokyo calls Governor Ajimobi traitor

The feud between Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and the erstwhile Chairman of the state National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Alhaji Lateef Akinsola alias Tokyo has continued to worsen.
PM NEWS gathered that the reason behind the crisis is the failure of Governor Ajimobi to fulfil his alleged promise of reinstating Tokyo as NURTW’s chairman, the act Tokyo described as a betrayal.
Tokyo, in a chat with PM NEWS described Governor Ajimobi as a traitor who reneged on reinstating him as the union chairman despite the fact that the court has declared him the authentic chairman of the union in the state. He described the governor’s act as a betrayal as he midwifed the setting up of a caretaker committee led by Comrade Taofeek Oyerinde, alias Fele to be running the union.
He said, “During the campaign, Ajimobi came to me to solicit for my support. Hepromised that if he wins the election, he will obey the court judgment and reinstate me back to my position as the chairman of NURTW in Oyo State. I legitimately worked for him and ensured that I didn’t allow his votes to be stolen. But when he got to the office, he stabbed me in the back. He forgot his promise. He worked with the national body of our union and he installed Fele who is my boy. What Ajimobi did is bad”.
Tokyo claimed that going by the judgment of the National Industrial Court, NIC, his tenure has not expired asking the caretaker committee of the union to vacate office for himas he declared, “I stand on the judgment”.

Gunmen Kill Driver, Abduct 2 School Kids In Benin

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers this morning struck near the home of a Benin-based businessman and industrialist, Juande Iyamu, killing his driver and abducting two of his children in the process.
The driver whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, was said to be driving the abducted children to an undisclosed school when the gunmen struck.
The incident occurred close to the businessman’s house located at Iguose, behind 7-UP Bottling plant between 7.30am and 8am.
Residents of the area who rushed out of their houses to see what was happening had to rush back upon sighting the kidnappers with their guns still smoking.
They however rushed to the scene after the kidnappers had left the scene to assist the shot driver, but it was too late as he was already dead.
Some of the residents said the driver was apparently arguing with the kidnappers, which might have made them shoot him at close range.
Mr. Iyamu, popularly known as Yawe Water, who was in shock, also berated the government for the precarious security situation everywhere.
He, however, declined to speak to the press about the incident.
Edo Police image maker, Anthony Airhuoyo said he was yet to be briefed by the Ekiadolor police station DPO on the incident.

Bankole’s Contract Scam Trial Stalled

The contract inflation scam trial of former Speaker of the House of Representatives,  Dimeji Bankole scheduled for Monday was stalled following the transfer of the trial judge, Justice Donatus Okorowo to Taraba state.
The former Speaker is, however, asking for the judge to be allowed to continuehandling the matter. In a letter addressed to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, counsel to the Speaker requested that Justice Okorowo be allowed to come from outside the Abuja jurisdiction to continue handling the matter.
EFCC had slammed a 16-count criminal charge on the former speaker where he was alleged to have defrauded the national treasury to the tune of about N894 million through  contract inflation.
A prosecution witness in the course of the trial, ASP Ibrahim Ahmed, had told the court that the former Speaker awarded contracts to companies not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and that several efforts to trace the locations of the companies were futile as the addresses found on the contract award documents purported to belong to the companies were non existent.
The witness who is a serving officer with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, also stated that upon investigating the petition written against the former Speaker by Dino Melaye, that he perused through the documents used by the then leadership in the award of the contracts and found out that contact details of the beneficiary companies were non existent.
He further stated that letters sent to the addresses were returned two weeks later for reason of non existence of the addresses.

Schools In Lagos Shut down

Activities were paralysed in all public schools in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, today as teachers began indefinite strike to press home their demand for the implementation of the 27.5 percent salary increase.

The schools were to resume this morning after the long vacation but the gates of the schools were shut against the students.
Thousands of students who thronged the schools this morning for resumption were disappointed as they were turned back home.
The teachers had warned that they would not resume until the government begins paying the 27.5 percent increaseTeachers’ Salary Scale, TSS.
In Alimosho, the strike was effective in over 125 primary and secondary schools in the area as teachers shunned work in compliance with the directive of the Lagos State Branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT. At Model College and Community High School, students were sent home. They were seen loitering around the gates of the schools.
Same goes for Government College, Iyana Ipaja, Oke-Odo Junior and Senior High School, Temidire Primary School, Aanu Oluwapo Primary School, among others.
In Agege, students were sent back home from Dairy Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary schools. Other schools in Agege were also shut.
In other parts of the Lagos metropolis, the situation was the same as teachers shunned work and students were sent home from schools. A senior Secondary School 3 student of Oke-Odo Senior High School, Ajibade Olashile told PM NEWS that he was disappointed that teachers had gone on strike as he expected to get back to his studies after the long vacation.
Another student, Ibrahim Tijani said he was not happy that he was sent home from school as public school students would now lag behind their counterparts in private schools.
Chairman, NUT, Alimosho branch, Comrade Claudius Sofoluwe told PM NEWS that the strike was total and that it was never called off as being reported in the media.
He said in 2008/2009, the state government reached an agreement to pay teachers the new 27.5 percent TSS and that government paid the full rate for 13 months only for it to back out of the agreement.
“In February, 2011, government stopped paying the money. We complained and theypromised to begin implementation by April 2011. They started paying 9.2 percent and promised that they would pay the full rate as from January 2012 and till now, nothing has been done.
Sofoluwe said that despite countless meetings to resolve the issue, the state government refused to pay and promised that it would pay 16.5 percent of the 27.5 percent by 2013, saying this was not acceptable.
He stated that the teachers would continue the strike until the government complied with their demands.

REVEALING! Smoking Marijuana Relaxes Me - Genevieve Nnaji

According to veteran producer, Charles Novia, Genevieve Nnaji has a secret dirty habit of smoking, which alot of people didnt know about:

Quote
. I remember on the third day of recording, one night while shooting at a clinic in Victoria Garden City Extension, I came out for a bit of fresh air while the technical people were setting up for the next scene. I saw Genevieve in a dark corner of the building, smoking acigarette. ‘Whoops! You caught me’, she said, laughing. ‘You smoke?’ I asked, a bit surprised. ‘Now and then. It relaxes me ’ she said. ‘Do you smoke?’ ‘Never have. Never will. But I don’t have any problems with people who smoke though. But health wise, I hope you stop soon.’ I replied. ‘I am trying to. Sit with me a bit, lets talk about this scene ’ I sat with her and I explained some few things to her about the scene. We also talked about a bit of her stardom and how she was coping with it. She was in a chatty mood and it was a revealing conversation.

That evening, I saw a vulnerability in her, I had never seen before. This young lady, by a dint of her talent, hard work or fortune, had superstardom thrust upon her and seemed to have no private life anymore. She had become one of the most recognizable faces in the continent and whilst enjoying the adulation, she was also coming to terms with the scrutiny of her Privacy, which was not too palatable to her. I admired her courage and somehow felt that she would go places beyond Nollywood. I remember I told her so. Genevieve was quite particular about make-up. She would spend many minutes, ensuring that her face was well-powdered.

WE are coming to another album launch, how has it been so far? And the journey to this particular album, how has it been? I bless the name of the lord, for giving me this opportunity, for taking me from mere clay to where I am today, I bless his holy name, this is the 9th album, and this is not alaunching, this is an unveiling, we just want to unveil it, nobody is going to launch, everybody is just going to pick their own, just give anything you like, even #500 is not small, even 200naria is not too small, I just want to bless God for taking me this far, it has been so rough, tough and I have experienced a lot of things, turbulence, if I can say, but yet bless the name of God, for making me stand up to this present time.

Concerning the situation of the economy now, not just the economy, the state and Nigeria as a nation, the insecurity and everything, is there a place for your album?

Sunday Ehindero Goes To Jail

Talk about having a taste of one’s own medicine. After sending so many people to jail, its time to go join them. How sad.

The Former Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero has been remanded in Kuje prisons for charges of embezzling and misappropriating funds while at the helm of affairs. Ehindero is on trial for allegedly embezzling N16 million meant for the police force. He and a former Commissioner of Police in charge of Budget, John Obaniyi, were, on Friday, docked before an Abuja High Court.

There have been several versions of the actual amount misappropriated by the duo during their tenure. Daily Times reports that the money was the interest that accrued to N567 million donated to the police, for the procurement of arms, ammunition and riot control equipment, by the Bayelsa State Government. Tribune claims that they misappropriated about N558 million while The Nation says they misappropriated about N574.4 million Police fund while in office.

Furthermore, they were accused of placing another N200 million from the donation in a fixed deposit account at the defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc where it yielded N6.5 million. They allegedly converted the interests that accrued from the two fixed deposits to their personal use.

They were arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over a six count-charge of criminal conspiracy and misappropriation Police funds while in office.

Both men pleaded not guilty.

The trial judge, Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi had granted the former police chief bail in the sum of N10 million and was to also provide a surety in like sum.

But when he failed to meet the bail applications by Friday evening, he was sent to Kuje Prisons to spend at least the next 48 hours, until Monday, with other prisoners.

Ehindero succeeded Tafa Balogun, who was also convicted for corruption, as Inspector General of Police. He served his tenure between 2005 and 2007.

Ugo Ozuah allegedly shot dead by police just 5days after his wedding

Ugo Ozuah was allegedly shot by men of the Nigerian police force in front of the UPS office on the Gbagada Express way on Thursday September 20th. He died early this morning at a hospital in Lagos. Ugo just got married last Saturday September 15th, 2012.

Details as to what really happened that Thursday night are sketchy but according to friends of the late
businessman, he was at the expressway with another friend trying to flag down a taxi around 9 at night, when policemen pulled up and shot him twice in the chest at close range. They said he was not resistingarrest, he wasn't arguing with the police, he was not asked to identify himself, he was just standing there with a friend and got killed for no reason.

Sounds crazy to me! The IG of police has said the men that killed the newly married man were not policemen...but they were wearing police uniform, so who were they?

This is truly sad, and quite unfortunate! I can't even imagine what his wife would be going through now. Hopefully, Ugo's family will get justice for this senseless killing!
